I saw the trailer and heard a bit of news about this series. It was pretty much something to watch if I had time and nothing to look forward to in general. I might have skipped it if there wasn’t Sandra Ng and Athena Chu. The trailer I saw was a collection of NGs, not an actual trailer. I didn’t even see the actual trailer before watching the movie and I didn’t even notice Athena in it. After seeing it somewhere that Athena was in the cast I re-watched it and saw her in there.

It is pretty obvious that this movie was going to be ‘messing’ with the actual movies. I didn’t watch a lot of the more recent ones so maybe that affected it. Luckily I knew a bit about the history and heard of the characters names.

Performances
Ada Choi and Athena Chu were lovely.

Why did they say Athena was part of the leads when she only had a bit of screen time… even Ada had more. I know they cut out a part of Athena’s 8 character part but still probably not even 30 seconds. Lots of people had more screen time than her.

Anyways they were highlights. Ada was hilarious with that serious expression and it was lovely seeing Athena appear with Ada. I thought Athena would have appeared in the last scene, since she was part of ‘the original’ but I guess only the >30 seconds she was in were the only scene she was in.

Patrick Tam was the other highlight. The scene where he was moving left and right to get used to the waves was the best.

Too many of the people are not Hong Kong actors so that kind of disappoints a bit. I don’t know when was the last time I actually saw a movie with full Hong Kong cast and is good.

I do like lots of their jokes and the way when you expect something to happen it does the opposite or something else. Jeff Lau who wrote the script should be the one that takes the credit for letting viewers play ‘spot the movie/incident’.
Although I enjoyed most of the ‘making fun/changing stories’ of the original, it felt a bit draggy and too much at a point, probably before Ada and Athena appearing, around the middle part. Maybe because I am not a fan of Ronald and I don’t like voiced over actors/actress. Having them as the lead might have affected it. Also the fact I didn’t see lots of the movies they used.

My Rating: 7/10, won’t re-watch
