Before watching
When I saw Sheren and Wayne as the leads I was happy and when I saw the Programme Presentation I was excited. Apparently I didn’t stop to make any screenshots of the trailer (according to a SAE post on Programme Presentation and Sales Presentation). With the good cast and a good producer, Tim Gor, who‘s been in TVB longer than most people, this was a series to look forward to.

The first time I watched it was when it was being aired, it felt like it was good but after a while it was repetitive and at some times annoying or just not good enough. Repetitive as in the script and lines are used before, but they change a few words and say they worked really hard on it and say they are a great (elite) crew, it’s like changing their previous work by a few words, isn’t this plagiarizing their own work, oh wait, TVB never plagiarize... This makes Rosy more of an indirect sequel of Moonlight Resonance for the dialogues and indirect sequel of Heart Of Greed in terms of plot.
The worst for repetitive was episode 7, the whole episode constant of Sai Naai Naai going back to Pang Hang to discuss the delivery fee and Chai Gau trying to convince Sha Ga Bong to not listen to Hang. It follows the series title of how heroic there two are but it is not something I would like to watch, although Sheren and Wayne didn’t make it annoying.

The second time was to find out if I missed something and see if it was really ‘that’ good, it wasn’t super dreadful re-watching it but it wasn’t that enjoyable. I could have used that time to watch or do something better or something I wanted to.

I would say it was mainly because of the script so I didn’t like it and don’t think it should deserve the hype and praises it got.

Performances

Sheren Tang’s Sai Naai Naai was from a well-educated family with a father who was the town’s mayor. She has experienced a lot, so when she tells people what to do during the first episode or her taking care or in charge of everything, it isn’t out of nowhere or exaggerated even if she is the ‘save the day’ kind of person. She is smart and knows a lot so in a way the good/right things she does is acceptable and not fake. Maybe there are too many of these kind of characters there was nothing special about it. I would say it was the hair and costume so this isn’t my favorite role or the best performance of Sheren.

Wayne Lai’s Chai Gau is like the main character while everyone else supports him so if you like him you will probably like Rosy but I didn’t like him. Chai Gau is a very round character. He is someone who came from a small village, isn’t educated, and from the bottom part of the society trying to climb up or just survive. Audiences might feel bad for him from the very start because he has to pretend to be a dog. This wasn’t the case for me, and the following is why I didn’t like Chai Gau and Rosy.

He is such a round character that he is ironic. He is ‘smart’ that he knows how to force dog hair down someone to say they also ate the dog and knows how to get rid of the birds, of course no one said someone not educated cannot know this, but he can calculate the amount that Sha Ka Bong can earn if they help Hing Fung Lin deliver rice and to come up with this plan to do so? He is so observant that he suspects who blackmailed Mo Jai, well sure… no one said observant only appears in certain kinds of people, but he can’t handle when Bit Man says he is an idiot. When Pang Hang puts him in jail and Sai Naai Naai helps him he still needs Sai Naai Naai to promise him not 1, not 2, but 7 things before he will help. If he is so observant and smart shouldn’t he know how to read people’s faces and understand Sai Naai Naai. He thinks that he is so good after he helped save Mo Jai and getting the rice back from Sha Ka Bong he should get raised a lot higher. If he understands that having some relationship means he won’t get what he wants as easy, then why doesn’t he do twice the work to prove himself instead of not working. Who said life was fair anyways, and shouldn’t he know that since he was always poor. The worst is when Hoi Tong seduces him, it shows that he has 0 self control. It’s even worst when he wants to be brave but doesn’t succeed. When in risk of being burned by Pang Hang he tells Sai Naai Naai to leave but when he gets splashed with oil he tells her to save him, same as the gun part when Pang Hang said he took Sai Po and meets him at the restaurant to tell him not to even think about taking his business, he acts all tough saying killing him is worthless but after Pang Hang shoots he is all scared. BTW why didn’t he shave his head after he got money…

I don’t even think I can find one scene that I like Chai Gau. Since Wayne did so good at being Chai Gau and he was not a chracter I liked and RB's main focus was CG... the result is I don't like RB. I liked Wayne but now it’s more neutral and towards dislike because of over exposure and attention.

Susan Tse was the very smart ‘villain’ from the very start, she stopped Chiang Kiu helping Sai Naai Naai when they were young and secretly does things to make Sai Naai Naai’s life more difficult, from not letting her in the family to disagreeing with everything she says, they were never on the same side. I guess I agree with Susan on how she only did all these things for her stupid son Bit Man so it didn’t feel like she was a villain. I like Sum Jei now but it wasn’t because of this role.

Kiki Sheung is Dai Naai Naai’s piece of chess in doing most of the talking for her, makes me wonder what they would have done with her if Kiki didn’t decide to quit in the middle.

Kara Hui being scared of everything and hiding in the back is not a role that is Kara is often seen as. It was a good contrast to her usual self and characters.

Elliot Ngok seemed like a villain or a greedy merchant at first but he wasn’t. Although he isn’t a bad guy, he semi cause most of the problems because he never answered the question on who to be in charge clearly and he lied in bed for many episodes while they were fighting over his properties, it wasn’t until his death that the answer came out, he always wanted Bit Man to be the best so why not say it. I liked Elliot before but it is slowly fading away, maybe he needs a villain role like The Brink Of Law/The Gem Of Life.

Pierre Ngo’s Bit Man is such a brainless character, he has close to no ideas of his own and when he does he gets injured. All he does is listen to his mother and other people’s ideas and be like ‘Oh Yeah, that’s a TERRIFIC idea!’ I don’t see how great he is but it is better than finding someone else at as Bit Man.

Ron Ng Good? Well not really. Bad? Well not really either. Makes me wonder why it seems like he hasn’t improved much since the beginning of his acting career.

Henry Lee was found because of his exaggerated acting, and the outcome is, he was exaggerated and it was annoying. I like his comedy roles better.

Cheung Yick was the opposite to Elliot, he seemed like a good person but he suddenly ended up being the godfather of Bit Man. Did Dai Naai Naai bake some evil cookies for him and lure him to their side?

Nancy Wu’s third(?) seductive role after Twin Of Brother and The Silver Chamber Of Secrets. It seemed like these kinds of roles make Nancy get the most attention.

The Chiang family relatives is a such joke, when Dai Naai Naai got the ridiculous relatives to make Sai Naai Naai give back the keys and such all they did was “Oh yeah?” “Oh really?” “Yes” “Ooo”, etc

I think in my thoughts of Wayne/Chai Gau said most of that I think about Rosy. I did not enjoy it as many others did. The actors and actresses are really good and ‘saved’ the script. I hope Rosy Business II is better or else it’ll just be a skip for me.

My Rating: 6/10, won’t re-watch
